The car pulled out of the Taco Bell lot at 425 NE Stadium Way. He hit the lights for a stop. Driver turned out to be Amanda Davis. While chatting with her, he caught a whiff of alcohol. Her speech slurred too. He asked about drinks. She owned up to two that night. Jordan took her papers back to his cruiser. He radioed Deputy Alex Peterson to handle the DUI check. Peterson rolled up minutes later. He told Amanda to step out. She hesitated a bit. Then she got out. Peterson suspected she was impaired. He asked for field sobriety tests. Amanda said she bartends at The Coug. She swore she could drive fine. First came the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. Peterson spotted all 6 clues of impairment. Next was Walk and Turn. She skipped heel-to-toe touches. Her turn was off. Step count was wrong too. Last test: One Leg Stand. She didn't lift her foot right. Forgot to count by one-thousands. They offered a PBT next. It clocked her at 0.169% BAC. Double the 0.08% limit. That traffic mess, booze smell, bad tests, and PBT result sealed it. They arrested her for DUI. Jordan parked her Camry nearby. Peterson drove her to Pullman Police Department. She wanted a lawyer there. She talked to one. Peterson read the implied consent warning. She agreed to breath tests. He tried a few questions. She just clammed up. First breath showed IR 0.165 and EC 0.163. Second hit IR 0.149 and EC 0.147. Tests done, Peterson took her to Whitman County Jail. A corrections officer took custody.
