Ryanair DON'T overbook flights. The aircraft type was probably changed to a smaller type, meaning 12 pax don't have seats.

As weird as this sounds, as someone who sometimes hopes this happens to them (ldr) - can you tell me when you checked in and stuff? And did you originally get a seat and found out at gate or did it say assigned at gate since check out? also u then flew another day I assume? Or were there options? I’m so curious sorry

it was obvious it was going to happen, if you look at the Sequence number on your boarding pass it says 204. The plane usually has 189 seats. If you check in early you get an earlier number. If you check in after everyone else then you get pushed off

All flights that sell out are oversold by up to 15%. Make sure you check in ASAP to avoid being bumped. Ryanair gives you 45 days or so prior to departure

Most likely your original aircraft had a technical issue and was a 737 MAX 8200 which has 197 seats but the only spare aircraft they had was a -800 which has 189 seats. yeah no excuse for 14 pax overbooked but for it to be 14 pax I think they did also change the aircraft

excuse my ingenuity, but don't you get a seat number the moment you buy your ticket? I have a flight for October and I selected a seat on the plane map that appeared. so that number and letter is mine. when my brother tried to select another seat, mine appeared as occupied. does this affect only tickets where your seat is chosen for you days before the flight? is it class-specific? the airline I talked about was Vueling, just with the "seat + cabin luggage included" fare, so not Premium or anything like that..
