And what you don’t explain is you can’t book the upgrade straight away. You have to wait until Emirates allow you to upgrade, and they only do that when they can’t sell the seats at full price!

Flex plus fare is the highest fare in economy (fully refundable tho) but that does not mean you will be able to upgrade. The upgrade with miles need to be available for that flight. It can be offered anywhere from 45 days to the day of the flight itself. But yeah, since you paid the highest fare, less miles will be needed.

You're literally paying thousands and thousands of dollars equivalent by using your air miles. Cheaper to just pay the fare in cash.
