@devonplaster: I want to reiterate that researching BPD and using any self assessment tools are NOT diagnostic tools—and are relatively useless without then speaking to a professional! #bpdinadolescents #bpd #bpdtiktok #bpdtok #borderlinepersonalitydisorder

after several friends with BPD told me they thought I had it and researching on my own what the symptoms and such were when I was 16, I brought it up to my therapist at the time and was immediately shut down anytime I tried to ask. She wouldn't even think about it. she said she wouldn't text me until I'm 25. I split on her and never saw her again. years later after an attempt I was mandated to go to DBT therapy by the hospital, where I was finally helped and affirmed that I had it. (the facility I went to would have barred me from attending if I had no evidence of BPD.) I only realized this yesterday. It's been 4 years since I had to go to DBT.

I just think we should normalize making DBT more accessible for people even without a diagnosis. DBT exists to treat symptoms of BPD regardless of if you actually have the disorder or not, making that treatment more available gives the opportunity for early intervention without the fear of a misdiagnosis or stigmatized label.

I genuinely can't comprehend how 1. you can not have bpd one day but the next is your birthday so suddenly it's not "normal behaviours" anymore and 2. HOW IN THE HELL IS ANY OF THIS NORMAL FOR TEEN GIRLS??? how can doctors who's whole life is littarly brains and they think it's normal behaviours to self harm and hallucinate

i will always love my psychiatrist for her early intervention. she saw clear signs in me at age 14 so she decided to diagnose me then and there even if she "wasn't supposed". and she straight up told me doctors dont normally do this but she will so i can get the treatment i need sooner, before my condition gets worse. and i will forever be thankful because i have been getting dbt therapy and now at 18 i feel way better than before. i wouldn't want to imagine where i'd be if they hadn't diagnosed me until now

I got diagnosed at 15. As hard as it was to live with BPD back then , the learning i did about it & the practice in order to learn to have better control over myself, my thought spirals, my life, & the ways i cope SERIOUSLY SAVED MY LIFE. If i had not been so educated on the disorder i was facing, i truly think i wouldve ended up going further down a very bad path as i got older. I mean i already had bad coping skills or mistakes i’ve dealt with in the past before (made a lot of life changes to save myself at age 18) i had gotten the hang of things, but i really think the harder things that come around ages 18-20 like moving out or choosing to continue your education or not would’ve wiped me out on a whole new level and made me so self destructive if i hadn’t already made these mistakes & gotten educated about my mind while it was the less harsh ages of 15-17 (not trying to say those years aren’t rough bc they were)

my psychiatrist told me I most definitely have bpd, and that she sees me fully as someone with bpd, the only reason shes not diagnosing me with it yet is because theres a chance that when my brain develops more, it fixes what was once damaged, but either way im getting support and help with her and my psychologist for my bpd. Though in 2 years if she still sees that my brain didnt fix what was "damaged", ill get a diagnosis. im 15 btw

Thank you so much for speaking on this. I commented the other day that my symptoms started when I was 14, but was diagnosed as an adult. It was very difficult for me as a teen. I appreciate your videos 🖤

I wish I had the breakdown on video it proved my bpd but after when I went into my psychiatrist at 17 who diagnosed with bipolar and told her that the medication’s weren’t working and that I was going crazy and it wasn’t bipolar she told me that I was wrong. Then when I turned 18 I got a new psychiatrist and she re-diagnosed me by the third appointment.

@tammy: I started showing signs of BPD at 13. I only got diagnosed at 20 and started therapy at 22. I think now most of my traumas emerge from people not taking me seriously when I was calling for help. I wish I could've taken care of it sooner.

As somebody who shows traits of BPD and is a teen and has been through DBT programs, it really has helped out a lot. I think a lot of people underestimate how these little coping skills work !! Seriously early intervention helps out so much

I feel very fortunate to have been diagnosed at 18. My first doctor told me I was being dramatic, but sent me to see another doctor who was then able to diagnose me and give me the help I needed.

I've brought up my concern to my therapist but she didn't even actually acknowledge it when I said it. I don't know how to get the idea to be considered because she's the only therapy option I have right now 😕

I had been advocating for my baby sister all my adult life, my parents only took her mental health seriously when she ran away from home with the grown man who was grooming her at 13-15 and then when he left, decided to stay out in the streets rather than come home. During that time, i yelled so much at my parents (i lived out of state) i had been telling my mom not to let her husband (out stepdad) force her not to neglect her mental health, because i had been telling her ever since i turned 18 and got my own help that something wasn't right with her. I screamed, insulted and berated them and then begged for them to get her help now or i *would* move down to PA and get child services involved for me to take her. She was unofficially diagnosed with bod at 15 (because they cannot diagnose her legally or smth???) and put on mood stabilizers and in therapy, i continued and still do keep an eye on her and she has grown into the most amazing young woman.

I was diagnosed at 16!!! It was really surprising because a lot of the symptoms I had could be and had been explained away with my avoidant attachment/autism so it was super eye opening to be diagnosed with bpd. Especially since I had no idea what it was at the time. Although rare, yes diagnosing young does happen

(Im not done with my psych eval yet) I talked to the doctor who's doing my evaluation on BPD about it specifically and my symptoms and she said it was unethical to test me for it as well as other dissociative disorders (other than one test) when these two things have been my main concern for years (other than autism). I am 17 and I have struggled with all of these symptoms (on top of other ones) for years and it hurts me to know that it won't even be considered literal months before im an adult because I'm still a child. it has caused so many complications and still does, my symptoms that correlate with BPD, autism, and dissociation are the ones i struggle with most and it hurts that the only one that can be properly looked at is the one I know i probably won't have struggles being diagnosed with. I don't know if i have it (obviously), but it still sucks.
