@teaching_mrsh: Rhetoric is just the house that arguments live in. It isn’t good or bad, it’s just a the way we communicate. That being said, more people need to study it - I think. @MR RUPP™️ has a ton of awesome content based around rhetoric and its application to argument and communication.
What really frustrates me is that Newsweek used to be a reputable source and it has become Clickbait

Thank you. You’re teaching students how to think and how to avoid being told what to think.

Hahah I keep getting really thrown off by how much we have in common… I teach the main physical science service course for non sciences majors and lm just like “if you could leave here being able to interpret a graph and maybe understand a little about how science is done so you can understand when the news is manipulating you, that’s all I want …” this feels more important than calculating velocity

This is especially true in the context of Jordon Childs, who had to return a medal at the last Olympics and is still embroiled in the controversy surrounding that. Whether the author of this title was intentionally shaping this to be Clickbait or just did not contain the rhetorical skill and social awareness to note that is a different issue.

I had heard about the clasp breaking issue, so I would have assumed that would be what the article is about. However, it would be easy to see how someone without that info could think something else based on the headline wording.
