A hollow wall is a good insulator against cold. It does not conduct heat away easily. It supports the wall better and also acts as a good sound insulator.

That is no new invention, we have built walls like this in Germany for ages. The only difference is that our bricks already come with air pockets in them. Sometimes the pockets are filled with stone wool
