@drkhlaire: ❗️Not all rashes are food allergies. As a pediatrician, most rashes I see are actually viral exanthems — and very often, eczema (atopic dermatitis). Hindi lahat kailangan ng food restriction or allergy testing. Here’s how to tell the difference and what parents should do 👇 🦠 VIRAL EXANTHEM (viral rash) Common during cough, colds, flu, HFMD, NSVE Usually appears after or during fever and spreads over the body. Treatment: ✔️ No antibiotics needed (viral ito) ✔️ Fluids + rest ✔️ Paracetamol for fever/discomfort ✔️ Calamine lotion if itchy (as advised by your pedia) ✔️ Self-limiting: usually clears in 3–7 days 💡 Goal: Comfort care while the virus runs its course. ECZEMA (Atopic Dermatitis) Chronic, recurring dry and itchy rash. Common in cheeks, neck, elbows, behind knees. Treatment: ✔️ Daily moisturizer (the MOST important treatment!) ✔️ Gentle soap, short lukewarm baths ✔️ Avoid fragrances & harsh products ✔️ Topical steroid during flares (doctor-guided) ✔️ Manage itch to prevent infection 💡 Goal: Repair the skin barrier and prevent flares. Parents often remove milk, eggs, chicken agad… But most rashes are NOT food allergy. Always consult your pediatrician before restricting foods.
