I had similar experiences. It's like they can't resist messing with you because they know you're not thinking clearly. They definitely affirmed some of my beliefs that they should not have.

Several patients did not have their glasses. & May have gone there abruptly and were not able to being them with them.

The only place I’ve had a good experience was in Raritan Bay Medical Center for well being. Unfortunately, I’ve been there 3 times. But I’ve been to private owned locations & it was terrible. This place is in a local hospital & the nurses are amazing. I recall 1 only that I wasn’t vibing with.

I'm grateful for the doctor and most nurses at my last psych ward, but the first 2 nurses I met when I got there ripped my gown off with the door wide open to search me. That terrified me.

The psyche ward is a brutal environment especially in facilities where they don't really care about you. The first time I got lucky and it actually was pretty okay, but the second one I went to was straight up bonkers and horrible. I'm so sorry you had to go through that, I understand how awful it can be.

Last year when I was in the psych ward in Winnipeg, I was very shocked. There were about three people who were not able to take care of themselves at all. They couldn’t brush their teeth or take care of their bodies. No one seemed to feel sorry for them or help them clean or bathe. Their teeth were completely ruined, and their bodies were injured from scratching themselves.😭

My psych ward was amazing. The people I met helped my experience massively. If you’ve ever watched ‘girl interrupted’ that’s what my experience was like and made me realise I’m not as mentally unstable as the people that are in here for. I was there for 2 weeks I even threw up my medication and offered my meds to the crazies in psych. I witnessed someone stab someone with a fork in the eye because she refused to move seats at lunch time. I was very well liked in psych everyone felt comfortable with me. When I got released I felt gutted cos I wanted to stay because I felt seen. I nearly got admitted again 3 years ago, but I believe if you go a second time you’re never getting out. And after that I decided to change my life and help myself unmedicated. Now I’m living a good life but I do struggle here and there x

You’re not alone. I have witnessed this kind of mean spirited behaviour with a family member in a psych ward. It was horrible.

you are so right I've experienced so much mistreatment emtionally and malpractice from staff n doctors during my visits. Ive also seen my partner been put on letal amount of benzos n other medication during his manic episodes bcs they didnt want to deal w it. yes psych ward are still essential but we cant act like they are all perfect everywhere. plus so many just don't have any therapy available there

One nurse told another patient that if they told me something that I would “become that thing” insinuating I was faking my symptoms and feigning crisis. My prefrontal cortex was fried from psychosis btw and I had no capacity for decision making. Also another nurse told another patient that I had tried to climb over the nurse’s desk which is a clear HIPAA violation. Another nurse also said nothing and was silent when she had to help me start the shower and I sobbed that I could feel my brain breaking from immense stress of psychosis.
