@therapistinrecovery: As promised! Though an official diagnosis is not necessary for proper treatment, a diagnosis can be a huge weight lifted and a way to externalize the ocd which is an intervention in and of itself. It can also ensure peace of mind you are being treated properly as you pursue that. Along with the reccs in the video you can also go online and take the Yale Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale and you’ll know pretty quick though I still don’t know that this would qualify as an official diagnosis. I have so much more about ocd to recommend and talk about so follow and stay tuned for more. If you have any topics regarding ocd you want to hear, check out my dozens of other videos or drop me a comment here and I can add it to my list or point you to the video I have on it! I’m here to help! #obsessivecompulsivedisorder #ocdawareness #anxietytherapist #ocdcheck #anxietytok

“Researching” things on ChatGPT was one of my compulsions, but I’m so thankful it led me to my amazing OCD specialist!

I was diagnosed with bipolar by my psychiatrist. I don’t believe this diagnosis to be accurate, mostly because I haven’t taken a single mood stabilizer in over 2 years and despite a couple of rough weeks, I’m doing better than when I was on them. I say this because the meds I was in increased my anxiety SO BAD. Anyways, I eventually went to a psychologist who helped me a ton and I suspect she knew I had OCD even if she never gave me the official diagnosis because so much of our therapy sessions were insanely helpful. I didn’t even connect the dots until I started reading up on OCD treatments and realized she was doing CBT therapy on me.

So… do you think a majority of people diagnosed with anxiety actually have OCD?

My therapist TODAY just helped me define the difference between OCD and anxiety. This was so eye opening for me.

I do have my therapist and we went through an assessment for OCD. He ultimately said that he believes I do have OCD but we haven’t really gone through any treatment options. Do I bring it up? I’ve been consciously scared to because I am afraid he thinks I am lying OCD (been sort of a thought loop of mine) and just trying to get drugs to feed an underlying addiction of mine.

I wonder as well because now OCD is so obvious! It concern me that so many professionals couldn’t see what was screaming in their face

Do you have a test that can be recommended before seeing a therapist to give the individual an idea

Would it be okay to see a therapist that doesn’t specialize in ocd? The only one I’ve found that I like, l can’t afford. I have the option of one that does ACT and IFS. Would that work?

My primary/family care doc was also my midwife and saw me through pregnancy, birth, and now in postpartum. She has been aware of my mental health struggles this whole time. As we have been walking through postpartum and I have been being more specific about my mental health in this season she told me she believes I actually have OCD instead of anxiety and is helping me find a specialist to see about being diagnosed and find treatment. That’s how I fell down this hole and found you. I am thankful for her every day!!

I've been diagnosed with ptsd, ocd and anxiety. I wish I could get anxiety removed from my records. Any time I've had a problem I'm told it's my anxiety. It's not fair.

Do you know any specialists in New Jersey (South Jersey specifically). I started on better help and was being treated for GAD but after watching your videos I think my symptoms are aligning more closely with OCD.

I specialize in OCD and use ERP and DBT (mostly mindfulness and emotion regulation) but my professional registration does not permit diagnosing so I support clients and advocate with doctors as needed. 😏
