Hello everyone little update: this incident was a very unfortunate event on Truxtun sides she lost steering control in the pilot house and by the time it was transferred the ship was pulled into the cargo ship the OOD made a quick decision throwing the ship in reverse to stop minimize damage, the reason for the loss is pending investigation but chances are it’s just a bad timing mechanical failure which you can’t blame anyone both ships didn’t suffer any major damage mainly just scrapes that can be fixed 2 sailors were hurt but only minor scrapes

No matter what the Captain will be relieved of his command and his career is over ! Even if it’s a mechanical problem it means a loss of proper maintenance and inspection.

The USS Truxtun (DDG-103), an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, was involved in a collision with the USNS Supply (T-AOE-6), a Military Sealift Command fast combat support ship, on February 11, 2026, in the Caribbean Sea.
The incident occurred during a replenishment-at-sea (RAS) operation, a standard procedure where ships sail parallel (often within a few hundred feet) to transfer fuel, supplies, and materials via hoses and cables. According to reports, the USNS Supply was simultaneously refueling or operating alongside another ship (the cruiser USS Gettysburg in some accounts), which may have limited its maneuverability and contributed to the mishap.
Two U.S. Navy sailors sustained minor injuries and were reported in stable condition. Both vessels remained seaworthy and continued sailing under their own power afterward, with no major structural damage publicly detailed. The U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) confirmed the event and stated that an investigation is underway.

When two ships sail closely side-by-side in the same direction, the water between them is constricted and moves faster than the water outside, creating a low-pressure zone between them due to the Bernoulli effect. Higher pressure on the outer sides pushes the ships together, increasing the risk of collision.

During an “unrep”, there is a lot happening in the water that can create sort of vortex that draws the two ships together. It is a real hazard and hard to compensate for. Remember the two bows are creating a funnel between them and it can make it difficult to keep the ships apart. I am sure the skipper is a fine skipper and this is a dangerous job
