"We need to talk" should be banned within any good relationship. Those are horribly triggering words and that's coming from someone that HATES hearing about "triggers".

Ugh everyone I know does this. “Hey let’s talk after work!” Or “I need to tell you something later” like no. No no no. You either tell me now or I’m going to start crying soon because clearly I messed everything up and you hate me and - ugh

I find that instead of using "We need to talk" using other phrases like " I'd like to pick your brain on something" or " Hey let's figure out dinner plans/ budget etc" gives me waaaay less anxiety

I think saying "let's talk about dinner" instead of just "we need to talk" is the key here.

Or just turn the sentence around”Dinner plans: we need to talk about them.” It immediately frames the whole forthcoming conversation

Change the order of the initial sentence: “we need to talk about dinner“ can become “dinner plans, let’s talk.“ Knowing that the topic is safe beforehand lets me know that I can be safe during the whole thing. 🥰

You make me (a) feel so much less bad about myself, and (b) give me a small amount of of anxiety because I know I need to get diagnosed at the age of 63 but don’t know where to start lol

Why would you acknowledge my existence unless it's to confirm the catastrophizing self-criticism that plays in my head 24/7? Just give me an agenda for every conversation 24 hours in advance please. Thanks!

At work, I manage a few people with RSD. I time my messages to people to reduce worry (never send an invite I expectedly at the end of a work day) and I will always give context. Even if it is a difficult discussion I will give expectations (such as feedback received and opportunity identified). In cases of bad news I use very clear non emotive language.
