@bloombeyonddiagnosis: Why do healthy people try to compete with chronic illness fatigue? “I’m tired too.” “I didn’t sleep either.” “Everyone’s exhausted.” And I need you to understand something. Chronic illness fatigue is not the same universe as being tired. This isn’t “I stayed up too late.” This isn’t “I had a long week.” This isn’t something caffeine, motivation, or a good attitude fixes. This is bone-deep. Cellular. The kind of exhaustion where your body feels like it’s moving through wet cement. Where rest doesn’t restore. Where sleep doesn’t reset. Where your brain and body stop cooperating without warning. When you compare your normal tired to chronic illness fatigue, what you’re really doing is minimizing an experience you’ve never had to survive. And honestly? That comparison hurts more than it helps. If you love someone with chronic illness, the most supportive thing you can say isn’t “me too.” It’s: “I believe you.” “That sounds unbearable.” “How can I support you today?” You don’t need to compete with our fatigue. You just need to respect it. If this made you feel seen, you’re not alone. And if you’ve ever had your exhaustion dismissed, drop a 💜 so others know they’re not imagining it either. #ChronicIllness #ChronicIllnessAwareness #ChronicFatigue #InvisibleIllness #DisabilityAwareness

They think we are just lazy and like to complain. It’s very hurtful.

I like to say “rest does nothing for me. i have a finite amount of energy for the rest of my life. Sure i can run a marathon tomorrow but that means i could be on a breathing tube when im 60. So i have to adjust every part of my life to not be bedridden later.”

I started describing it to my husband as like when he has a fever, and I think that helped. But people just honestly don’t understand.

“I’m really foggy and fatigued today, I’m sorry” “oh me too, let me list everything I did so far and I have to go meet friends this afternoon!” Like.. I’ve not eaten today because I’m too tired to chew. But yes make me feel guilty for laying at home all day thanks

They've studied the effects of chronic fatigue and it's the equivalent of a regular person going 30 hours without sleep.

I have MS, clinical depression and might have endo. My levels of fatigue are EXTREME. I’ve never felt energised. I don’t remember a day I feel well rested. I feel you 😭😭

Apparently chronic fatigue and brain fog is the equivalent of a healthy person staying up for over 3 days straight, normally shuts them up 😂😂

The difference I feel from when I was younger to how I feel now. When I said “I’m exhausted” I didn’t know what THIS felt like. I could lay here alllllll day. And still feel like I’m pushing through the mud to get up and get a glass of water. It’s not even explainable

Facts! It adds another level of exhaustion! No matter what we say our symptoms get down played even more because "they're tired too" 😔🙄.

I didnt even conceptualize i had a chronic illness until like midway through 2021 bc of people like this making me think “oooh ok the pain is regular” since i had this as a kid. it took my nurse asking how much pain/exhaustion i feel day to day and i said “the normal amount like a soft 5” and hes like “the normal amount is 0” 😭

Because unless u go through it u just cant understand. I think people generally just want to sympathize or empathize and they don't mean it as competition or to negate what u feel. at least that's what I believe so I don't enraged. lol Chronic Migraine sufferer.
