their lore/ history: they skated together for 22 years since the ages of 7/9. tessa originally wanted to do ballet and scott wanted to be a hockey player, but they stick to each other. they never outgrew each other, which is crucial for ice dance teams, even though tessas family is tall and scott's is small. they went through all kinds of phases together. they left home quite early, scott would ride tessa everywhere, practises or groceries. they trained with their main competitors with the same coach. merly/charlie. they NEVER switched partners even if it was just a joke. when tessa went through surgery/recovery, they went through probably one of the darkest times in their career, they didn't communicate for weeks but he never skated with anyone else, he skated with sandbags. after this during this time, they started doing THE HUG before competitions, to synch their breathing and get ready to do their best, they never stopped doing until the end of their careers. they came back stronger, and won the 2010 olympics. the path to the sochi olympics was tough, their coach sided with merly/charlie, they felt like it was just them agsnt the world, they got silver, there was a lot of controversy surrounding the medals. they stepped away from the sport for 2 years. they did a trip to beijing in meantime and there was where they decided to come back in 2016 but with a different coach, they moved to montreal. they chose pilgrims on a long journey/latch for the free, explaining how they related to it, two people coming together realizing how much they need each other. 2017 was really though for scott personally, he lost people close to him, he mentioned that tessa was his absolute rock. they won worlds that year, scott made a little mistake and he beat himself to it. next season it was their last, all coming down to pyeongchang, they chose moulin rouge. they trained every single minute and prepared for all. they were flag bearers for canada. won gold in the team event for canada, they were super happy. in the individual event, february 20th, they skated 20th, the last team to skate, they were perfect and they won. it was epic.
