He studied medicine at university, but his life changed after traveling across Latin America as a young man. During these journeys, he saw extreme poverty, injustice, and exploitation, which deeply influenced his political beliefs. Che Guevara became convinced that capitalism and imperialism were responsible for much of the suffering he witnessed. He later met Fidel Castro in Mexico, and together they planned a revolution to overthrow the Cuban government. After years of struggle, the Cuban Revolution succeeded in 1959. In Cuba, Che Guevara held several important government positions and worked to transform the country’s economy and education system.
