My father kissed me until his passing when I was 51. He was only half Italian, but I suspect he picked this up from his mother who was 100%. It always bothered me that my sister pushed him away after she got married. No respect for culture.

I lived in Florida for a short period, and a lot of Americans, knowing I was Italian, really wanted to greet me with a cheek kiss. It made me laugh a lot the way they did it and the embarrassment they had while doing it 🤭 (sometimes I would have preferred to avoid it 😅).

I always felt that it was because the spaces were very tight. For example, the sidewalk in the old city of Florence is tiny and people have to pass each other I’d be very close to each other while doing it.
