I only did crystal for a short time, but I was fortunate enough to not really notice any side effects. (EXCEPT BRUXISM, WHICH PLAGUES ME LONG AFTER MY USE) I was heavily medicated otherwise so maybe in the blur it’s lost.

Paul Zilber :
Hi! I work in substance use treatment, and one thing that still baffles me is that under ASAM criteria, stimulant use alone (like meth) typically doesn’t qualify someone for detox. That means commercial insurance often won’t cover detox admissions, so we end up admitting people straight to residential treatment instead. The logic behind that is… questionable.

25 years ago, I managed to kick it with mini-thins, no-doze, red bulls and four pots of coffee a day, but I wouldn't recommend it if there are better options available.

this is fascinating to me. i walked away from meth after 8 years and had no issues, remaining abstinent for over 7 years until my husband died, but walking away from opiates after 1 year (what i started using when he passed) has been nearly impossible.

I moved almost 1k miles away, to a very rural area, to quit cold turkey in the early 2000s. I knew one person there. Never looked back. Recovery sucked, so I gave myself no choice.

If it’s just dopamine , then pretty much every major corp who’s business model is addictive, ie gambling , would essentially have a cure and that’s bad for business

25 years of hard meth use! took me 6 months to get over the hump and almost another 6 months to finally be able to function and get a job. 7 years sober

When I went through withdrawal when I finally kicked the habit, I needed to go inpatient in the hospital and they treated my symptoms individually. I slept and ate A LOT. I was in a state hospital, so I only paid 100 bucks for my 2 month stay. the first 6 months was the ABSOLUTE worst part of getting sober.

Why aren’t we investing money into prevention? If we took the enforcement, treatment & study $$ and used them to improve living maybe there wouldn’t be this epidemic of mental health/drug/homelessness. Just a contrary opinion.

so many people on it dont know you can OD on it but my mama has when i was hrowing up alone with her a lot. i wish getting treatment wasnt so hard. ive always wondered is there a reason why on some people it makes them wide awake and high and on the other side more aggressive? my mom and dad always had these differences on them and ive been curious :0

I was sober for a year, then I relapsed for a little while, and now I’m coming up on another year sober again. When I first got clean, I honestly never thought my brain would recover. I struggled to form sentences and would stumble over my words. It’s hard to explain, but I genuinely felt like I had to relearn how to be a human again. My mannerisms, the way I spoke, the way I interacted with people, even how I thought everything felt foreign. I had spent so many years stuck in addiction that my brain was used to chaos. I was often awake for days and even weeks at a time and spent a lot of that time in psychosis from lack of sleep and substances. Reality didn’t always feel real, and when I finally got sober, coming back to normal life was honestly terrifying. I remember thinking I would never be able to think clearly again or function like a normal adult. Part of me didn’t even want to try being sober because I felt so broken. But healing is real. Our brains are incredibly resilient. Today I’m studying, rebuilding my life, and I’m in the best place I’ve ever been. I never thought I would survive those years, let alone find peace on the other side. Relapses can happen, and if they do, it doesn’t mean you’ve failed. Just pick yourself back up and start again. Recovery is hard, but life can become so much better without that drug.
