This is a very approachable countertop upgrade, but there are a few key tips that make the difference between a clean install and a frustrating mess. In this video, I walk through how I updated this laminate countertop using contact cement and a new top sheet of laminate. I show how to properly apply contact cement with a foam roller, how to know when it’s ready (tacky, not wet), and how to use scrap wood or dowel rods to position the laminate without it grabbing too early. That dowel rod trick alone can save you from ruining a full sheet. Once aligned, I demonstrate how to remove the spacers gradually, press the laminate into place, and use a roller to fully bond the surface. I finish it off by filing the edges clean for a professional look.
