In Norway, and i think most of Europe also, there is a safety valv for this kinda situation, so the only oil it the amount in the actual hose, not the sylinder

In the civilized world we have laws against constructing dangerous hydraulic systems like this. Hoses are not alowed to be load holding. At that point pipes are recuired. With load holding valves ofcourse. But US trucks are still the same as in the 80s, so no surprise really.

Once again , in Europe , there’s a safety valve at the trailer ( or any equipment using hydraulic pressure) and lock the hoist in the position for safety

Years ago, my dad had one where the cylinder broke on the way back down, bent the trailer, framing, half bent the truck frame sprayed hydraulic fluid all over his back window, so it couldn’t see anything. He almost died. The whole rig tipped on over.
