I think american fans of the book need to disengage from critical theory and look at how this book is analysed by more modern literary theorists. its a terribly dated way to engage with media. some reading from a narratologist perspective Fennels choices make perfect sense.

I’ve read the book twice and love it. That being said, I also loved the movie. I went into it knowing the director’s past work and so I think that helped set my expectations for the film. I honestly feel like the people who hate it and are repulsed by it just don’t know her work. Like babes, what are you expecting from the director of Saltburn? Also, cinematography was chef’s kiss!

I loved it so much but I went with expectations that it wouldn’t be like the book at all. I do think you can still see how selfish and horrid the characters are so not all is lost. But it was so beautiful & gut wrenching
