Are we sure we don’t have the cause and effect backwards?

I’d totally have kids if I could be a dad.

I always assumed men get paid more after having kids because he “has to support a family now.” Unlike women somehow?!

Kids have drastically held back my earnings, and many Dads and Mums have the same issue.

It’s true. My husband tripled his income because of me. And he will even tell you that’s true.

I was an appraiser in my 20s and we were paid a percentage of the appraisal fee for their work we did. You kind of end up specializing because of efficiency in completing the same type of work. There was a competing firm that when things got slow, would hand out assignments to married fathers first regardless of seniority or expertise.

as a therapist my #1 advice to everyone is: be curious. be curious about yourself, your feelings, your reactions. be curious about other people. about your partner. about the world and cultures. not judgemental, not defensive, not critical - be curious. relentlessly

A guy at work got married and had twins. Boss gave him a raise and promotion. Female coworker (mom) on same team was told by same boss a fraction of her raise was given to the guy bc he needed it more.

I never had kids of my own. My employers treated me like shit. I had to work all the holidays, never got promoted and barely got raises. Those bonuses never covered the cost of living.

When my husband’s company had to lay someone off, his boss picked him and told him it was because he was the only guy on his team who didn’t have kids.

Very obviously a situation requiring quadruple domestic labor isn’t even for the most neglectful father a reduction of it nor is it only a hallo effect, whether or not it’s right men feel impelled in such circumstances to focus on making money more than if not.
