You think it's cheaper to hire an insect rangler to try and get a an unpredictable bug to walk on a prop in a very specific way?

Because it might crawl out of focus, not move at all, etc. all while an entire camera crew is struggling to get the rest of the shot right too. I don’t like it either but I get it. It’s things like this that allow companies to release shows and movies in a timely manner.

thry don't need real bugs. they need to use proper cgi. pixar had to dial back their cgi work because it looked too real. the bugs look bad becaude it was cheap and quick cgi i stead of paying for quality work.

Also CGI is harder because you have to take how things interact with their environment into account, where practical you could just drop it in

unnecessary CGI is one of the things I hate about modern film ESPECIALLY when they complain about how expensive it is to make film/tv today. Like why are we doing CGI for simple scenery or hallways too?

Thier are bug trainers for movies, you do need to “train” them. You need them to actually do the thing you want, if they’re scared it’s not going to happen

"As much as I loved movies like Dunston Checked In." Sometimes there are quotes that you know, with absolute confidence, will never, ever be said again.

He's right. It is completely pointless to just add in a cgi bug unless the bug gets eaten or squished..

It’s also because people don’t want to risk their bugs. People who have exotic animals, including bugs care a lot about their pets. Lots of them are very fragile and handling them can easily hurt them. Add in a bunch of people who likely don’t like bugs, and are afraid of them having to work with them and it’s fairly likely the exotic will be injured or killed. Also sets are made from all types of things. Lots of bugs are super sensitive to chemicals
