@calmmoneycoach: In the 1970s, 90% of Canadians with a workplace pension had a defined benefit plan. Your employer promised you income for life. You didn’t pick investments. You didn’t guess. It was handled. Then the private sector walked away from that promise. And nobody told anyone. No education. No transition plan. Nothing. Now 57% of working Canadians feel unprepared for retirement. 39% of people aged 55-64 have less than $5,000 saved. And Canada actually has one of the best pension systems in the world… most people just can’t access it. This video breaks down how Canada quietly split into two retirement systems, what it actually costs to build your own pension, and what you can do about it. It’s not your fault that nobody taught you this. But it is your responsibility now. Save this. Send it to someone who needs to see it.
I left the private sector for a gov job (found out mine is secure no lay off) & it was the best thing I ever did. Better pay, no free over time, great benefits & a pension that’s decent

A family member of mine has about $1M invested and between that and OAS + CPP they get about $80K/year.

If you and your spouse pass away after five years the pension is gone.your kids get nothing.take the commuted value if you can and invest it in dividend paying stocks so when you pass your family gets your portfolio.

It’s midnight and I just spent the last 90 minutes looking at my DB and DC, RSP, and TFSA accounts. Super thankful for the DC and DB. I’m in my early 50s and could retire at 55 but would be much more financially comfortable retiring at 60.

I realized this when I was in university, so I aimed for government jobs only. 7 years later, it still seems to be a good decision

Even if you save enough. They just move the goalposts and dig deeper in your pockets! In Canada you can’t even afford to die or inherit wealth.

What happened to the Ontario private sector pension plan, I know the previous liberal government was serious about implementing it numerous times

Can you do a video on how much you need for retirement? Is the 4% rule accurate?

The Canadian Armed Forces recruitment center is always open. I signed up 25 years ago and retired with a pension. There’s a job for everyone who wants to serve and a pension to follow.
more content like this please. You definitely hit it on the nail, sometimes I wonder why is it so hard now to plan and if previous generations also had to go through this and how do I know I am doing it right
