I heard someone say this once and it really stuck with me. Books 1-3 or 4, the dungeon is happening to Carl. After that, Carl is happening to the dungeon. It’s an incredibly wild ride and I absolutely loved it.

I have seen multiple negative reviews claiming mysogyny or racism and genuinely think those readers don't understand commentary that's against discrimination and calling it unhinged and wrong.

the series turns into one of the most emotionally wrenching things I've ever read. I had to pull over on the side of the freeway multiple times in books 6 and 7, just to take stock of myself. Dinniman is a pro at understanding the human struggle,and Jeff Hayes puts on a narration masterclass throughout the series. chefs kiss.

I went into it, assuming I wouldn’t like it. Now on book 6 and DEVOURING IT. I need more. Like 8 books will not be enough! I need a whole 175 book series on Carl and Donut.

First book is the weakest IMO, mostly because it has to do all the heavy lifting of establishing the world and rules. Once that is set up the books just get better and better.

I read book one and then did the audiobook for book 2 and can honestly say that audio is the way to go for this series. It gives it so much more punch to listen to it and I typically would rather read than do audio.

The trauma everyone experiences seems like it’s played for laughs until you realize these characters are three dimensional and respond realistically. They’ll introduce characters throughout the series and you will love/hate the individually. It’s a master class in writing depth while appearing shallow at first glance.
