This sounds cold: cops not being allowed to protect themselves with lethal force, when absolutely necessary, would provoke such an outcry from taxpayers (“All these wounded and disabled former cops, and the reluctance of recruits to join the force without being paid exorbitant salaries which our town/city/county/state cannot afford without gouging us with tax increases, is unacceptable and unaffordable…”)… sorry.
