A lot of left-leaning Americans avoid criticizing China because they feel like our government feeds us a lot of propaganda about China (which is true), but they forget that China, like every country on Earth, has its own problems and speaking on those problems doesn’t automatically make you a CIA agent spreading propaganda, it makes you an analytical and rational person who is able to criticize classism and governmental problems anywhere.

I really appreciate this perspective. I was definitely starting to get a skewed picture of China because of the nice videos from big cities. It’s the same in Russia. Only big cities have a decent quality of life. HUGE discrepancy

Is your argument that other countries don't have class stratification, unpaved roads and cruelty.

Doesn’t studying 12+ hours a day bar diminishing returns? The sleep deprivation and stress must reduce brain capacity after a certain point.

Children NEED play. Play is how you learn and develop. This will have some very strange repercussions in generations to come 😞 Those poor kids

Their strong work ethic is admirable but I personally couldn't live like that. It's soul crushing to work that much

I lived in Jilin Province in a third tier city named Songyuan. I saw the countryside of China in the Dongbei/Manchuria area. You don't have to convince me Huey.

A friend I made on Rednote told me this is one of the reasons she never had children. She said there was never any time for the to just be kids and didn’t think that was fair, so she chose to never have kids. I totally get it.

Lisa Lee interviewed some workers in a small fabrication shop one time. They looked very tired. The segregation is crazy the more you look into it.

So I lived in rural Jilin 99 to 2001. when I got there it reminded me of media I'd seen from the '70s and '80s and by the time I left I could tell there was going to be head spinning changes. because of my accent on red note in Chinese I actually got banned from that platform. I originally came from rural Kansas and it's not a far stretch for me to say that I know what poor areas are. they're both easy to get to if you know what you're looking for, but can also be easily avoided if you decide to keep your eyes closed to the signs. it's a lot of half truths with places saying they have completely and utterly changed, especially in the rural places. but at the same time there is a nostalgia for people like Mr. baio. I don't think very many systems currently around. have really figured out governance of people and fairness of Labor.

i still dont understand the poverty argument this is a country that was plagued with famine and starvation in the 1900’s and you are focusing on the villages that are poor? what countries dont have that? they surely have more equitable insurance plans and food costs than us
