@redditstories_doggo: My kids started calling my new husband "dad" after their real one never showed up for them, but one day he came back, and the kids turned on my new husband immediately, just for him to leave again. Plus one update. Posted by: u/Glittering-Humor-802 #reddit #redditstories #storytime #redditdoggo #minecraftparkour #redditreadings

I said this in another instance, I’ll say it again. They’re 16, they’re old enough to know right from wrong. OP should not push him to forgive them. If he does, it should happen at its own pace.

Healing is one thing. But replacing a broken bond with a new baby? That’s a whole different story.

i saw a comment on scalingstories video of this reddit story and it was from a woman who showed this to her husband who had been in a similar situation (he married her and raised their kid for majority of his life and the dad wanted to step back in the picture a little later on) and the stepdad said that nothing their kid could say would ever make him go back on his choice of being his dad. the commenter even brought up an instance where the kid told their stepdad he wanted to go be with his “real dad” and it still didn’t deter him from being a proper father figure.

One of the most important lessons I learned in my life is this: love is unconditional relationships are not. Relationships are nothing but agreed upon condition between parties. This is a good opportunity for them to learn that lesson. If your kids touch the hot stove, would you tell the stove not to get hot anymore or would you teach your kids not to touch it? Stop blaming those kids. This comment was for that one person in the story that said he should forgive the children.

Cordial is not a bad thing honestly. Both parties can be respectful towards each other.
