You make a good point on brown shoes being more casual than black shoes, but I think the real problem is just having shoes lighter than the rest of your outfit, when they should be darker. So yes, wear black shoes with dark suits, but with lighter suits like beige or cream, feel free to wear lighter brown shoes as long as they’re still darker than your suit

so its not a about colour matching or looks? but just arbitrary separate things in formal/casual. brown looks good with grey, it goes with grey. yeah it makes it looks more casual but thats fine if thats what you want
