I feel like people gatekeeping what it mean to be working class just creates more division. There is this odd sense of pride in being “hard done by” like it’s a badge of honour and I think it just divides all the common people against the common enemy.

The moment of realisation for me was that the people around me had never seen £50 notes and didn’t carry multiple of them in their purse/wallet purely to save space. Also when I gave them a £50 they would look at me like I was genuinely insane even if it was a special occasion.

I rmb a time where someone I used to be friends with was like oh just because I live in a two story house doesn’t mean I’m rich mind you it’s one of thoses NICE ones while in year five she’d call me poor constantly and say she hated coming over cause it was poor and smelt
