I think the Joker’s problem is that too often now he’s there to taunt Batman with an edgelord philosophy lecture rather than doing anything remotely comedic. The Batman’s take on the Joker is underrated in that sense.

For me, while Heath Ledger’s Joker is utterly fantastic, it did damage to how Joker was written after. He became a little too serious like the Joker is supposes to represent chaos but ironically, he lately has too much of a plan in everything he shows up in so he is less chaotic and less of a contrast to Batman in some cases.

I will always hold the belief that Scarecrow worked far better as Batman’s opposite. He harnesses fear to rule over and push people down while Batman tries to help the people of Gotham and Scarecrow forces him to reevaluate how he is using his image as the Batman to do that
