@sweetbriarnaturecenter: Volume up….Who better to wish you a Happy Valentine’s Day than one of our newest ambassadors — Galaxy, our stunning Barbary Gyrfalcon Galaxy always has something to say, and if you look closely, she even sports the tiniest heart shapes in her feathers. We couldn’t think of a more perfect bird to feature today! Valentine’s Day always brings up the question: Do birds really mate for life? According to the World Wildlife Foundation, about 90% of bird species choose monogamy as their reproductive strategy — compared to just 5% of mammals! That said, monogamy in birds is often seasonal, meaning pairs stay together for a breeding season, not always forever. But some species are famous for forming long-term pair bonds, including: ❤️ Atlantic Puffins
❤️ Bald Eagles
❤️ Barn Owls
❤️ Bewick’s Swans
❤️ Black-billed Magpies
❤️ Black-necked Swans
❤️ Black Vultures
❤️ Blue Jays
❤️ Brolgas
❤️ California Condors
❤️ Canada Geese
❤️ Common Ravens
❤️ Golden Eagles
❤️ Gyrfalcons
❤️ Laysan Albatrosses
❤️ Macaroni Penguins
❤️ Mute Swans
❤️ Oak Titmice
❤️ Ospreys
❤️ Philippine Eagles
❤️ Pileated Woodpeckers
❤️ Pinyon Jays
❤️ Red-tailed Hawks
❤️ Sandhill Cranes
❤️ Scarlet Macaws
❤️ Snow Geese
❤️ Wrentits
❤️ Whooping Cranes Whether it’s for a season or a lifetime, the bond between birds is truly something special — built on teamwork, trust, and raising their familyp together. Galaxy hopes your Valentine’s Day is filled with love, loyalty, and maybe a little bit of wild romance Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!
