They both fell for Clark in Smallville cmon. I love Lana in the first seasons like she's that sweet girl. But she went through so much and she wanted more power. At this point, they couldn't understand each others. They were in love with some illusions of one another : Clark still saw Lana as a young girl to protect and Lana still saw Clark as that young farm boy when they both grew so much. Clana was great but it will never be as incredible as Clois. When Bizarro took Clark's place, Lana couldn't tell the difference between them for 1 whole month, despite Chloe sensing something was wrong with him in 1 day. Lois knew when Clark was Clark Luthor or Clark Kent in a second, she knew Zod wasn't the Blur just by touching his hand and she knew Clark was the Blur just by kissing him. They are soulmates bc Lois never forced anything to Clark even if she wanted him to tell his secret and all. But Lana wanted to know absolutely, she literally keep breaking his intimacy (searching Clark's secret on his room or in Chloe's computer, hidding the stone that she found in China to Clark,...). But when Chloe searched his past, he was mad. And Clark couldn't even trust her like he trusted Lois bc telling her his secret literally k*lled his father (why did she go to Lex's mansion in the first place when he called her when she wasn't forced to). He never had to be uncertain with Lois, he just knew she was the one. She has flaws but he accepts them bc he loves everything abt her. Lois brings out his humanity, his joy and he was the happiest with her. We never saw him smilling to anyone like he did with Lois. He was never angry towards Lois but he always was with Lana. Lana and Clark tried many times to be together but it never worked. Oh and Martha or Jonathan always implied that Clark would find another girl when he was in love with Lana (even them knew that she wasn't the one), but they accepted Lois instantly in their family.

Lana and Clark were never going to work out and it’s been foreshadowed from the beginning. Lana said she stayed with Whitney bc he is there when she needs him. Clark was never going to be that for her and it continued when he became Superman. Lois always understands the world needs Superman, and she’s okay with sharing him with the world

I love Clark & Lana's relationship. It let them grow into the people they are today, and it showed Clark how to be a better hero. Lois may be Clark's soulmate, but Lana was integral in the creation of Superman.

Nah, Lois always had Clark and Superman. she's the only person who got Clark to have a personality and he never looked at Lana the way he looks at Lois. He literally says that he doesn't want there to be a Universe that exists where Lois hates him
