she has to walk behind him and he is not allowed to look back...and because he doesn't hear her steps anymore ,he turns around and because of this she is trapped in the underworld forever!🥺

Currently focusing on this myth as part of my degree. If it helps any of you romantics to know, while Orpheus then gets torn to pieces by followers of Dionysus(the reason varies but I’ll cover one version) as he wouldn’t entertain their advances because he was so depressed. He ultimately is reunited with Eurydice in the fields of Elysium where they could gaze endlessly upon one another without fear once more.

An Orpheus who wouldn’t turn around to face Eurydice was an Orpheus who wouldn’t have travelled to the Underworld to save her.

It’s not a “he looked back because he loved her” tale. The story is great because his love is “supposedly” following him out of hell, he can’t stand the silence anymore turns around and she’s not there. Is she not there because he broke the deal or was he tricked by hades? That’s why it’s a great story because it begs the question did Orpheus ruin it or was it all a trick

I feel like people who don’t deal with this don’t understand how physical anxiety really is. that’s why “When Anxiety Loses Interest by Teya Dray” stood out to me because it actually talks about the body, not just thoughts
