@thebrokencountryfilm: Housing costs impact more than just buying a home. Higher mortgage payments affect spending, savings, and financial stability. How could this impact Canada’s economy in the years ahead? #canada #brokencountryfilm Disclaimer: Non-partisan. Debate welcome. Hate and extremism are not.

Costs rise. That’s normal. Wages haven’t for decades. That’s the problem.

Yeah...people keep saying that it's increasingly hard to find extra money( we feel it in our own family) but can I tell you we went on vacation to Toronto last weekend...and our starting point was always from Yorkdale mall every morning and there was no shortage of shoppers there...all with bags in their hands.

Why don’t governments just make all housing payments, whether it’s rent or mortgages based income based instead of letting landlords, banks and investors dictate the price?

When I bought my house 10 years ago, I did the math based on one salary. We weren’t rich, but we were doing okay. We could pay all our bills and still afford a few things here and there.
Since then, everything has gone up — insurance, groceries, gaz veterinary costs, and pretty much everything else. When I renewed my mortgage this year, it ended up costing me almost $1,000 more per month.
Even with two salaries, things aren’t easy anymore. And that’s what’s frustrating: 10 years ago, I was doing perfectly fine on one salary and could afford things I can’t even consider now. It really makes you realize how much the cost of living has changed. In maybe 3 year I will have to buy another car and I don't know how we are foing to afford that!
