Practically no one in the Philippines eats cavendish bananas. We eat latundan, lacatan and saba. There’s also the señorita banana. Cavendish is bland. Latundan is tastier and more fragrant.

Cavendish is bland but this is the only thing can be exported due to thick of the skin. If they taste each of these banana desserts then they might go crazy.

I pity thr folks who like bananas but are stuck eating the export-friendly Cavendish, which is the blandest banana ever. Literally any other banana tastes better, but can't really be exported cos they bruise easily.

oh I didn't know latundan and lakatan can't be exported. personally, those are my favorites. i feel sad for people who only have cavendish as their option :(

I live in Japan, there are other bananas that came other countries like, vietnam, cambodia, equador and mexico, but the best of them is from the philippines. Why? It tastes better and sweeter compared to other countries.

I used to work in a company in the Ph that exports banana to Japan, Korea, etc.. They are so strict with the quality, every single 🍌, are washed, covered with styrofoam to avoid bruising, air conditioned, counted per piece and per bunch, and must arrive there at the expected time to avoid spoilage.And yes they have lots of programs in the PH to help local farmers. 💕

I need to fact check. So I did my research: As of 2026, the Philippines has reclaimed its spot as the world's second-largest banana exporter, with Japan remaining its most critical market (accounting for 75–80% of Japan's total banana imports). The export landscape is dominated by a few major players—a mix of domestic giants and multinational corporations—most of which are headquartered in the Davao Region of Mindanao. Key exporting companies are: Sumifru Philippines, TADECO, Dole Phillipines, Unifrutti Phil and Lapanday Foods Corproation.

The exported banana only looks pretty ngl. The provincial bananas(those that also don’t survive to major cities) defo taste better but doesn’t look pretty and has small shelf-life.

The Ryukyu Islands can grow banana but the typhoons can easily destroy banana trees. Even in the Philippines, banana plantations are located in the Southern Philippines because typhoon dont hit the region due to its close proximity to equator.

i live in an area that's 50% banana plantation (the exact brand sold in japan) and this informartion is interesting. now i'll think of cheaper electronics whenever i see a trunk 😅
