🔴🏍️ REMEMBER WHEN TRON LIGHTCYCLE / RUN TURNED RED AT MAGIC KINGDOM?! 🏍️🔴 For a limited time last year, Magic Kingdom gave one of its newest attractions a completely different look — and if you got to experience the TRON: Ares overlay, you got to see the Grid like never before! ⚡️ Normally, TRON Lightcycle / Run is all about those iconic blue lights and futuristic Grid aesthetic. But in September 2025, Disney flipped the switch… AND THE GRID TURNED RED. 🔴🔥 The temporary overlay was created to celebrate the release of TRON: Ares, the third movie in the TRON franchise. It debuted at Magic Kingdom on September 15, 2025, just weeks before the film arrived in theaters. 🔴 THE RED LIGHTS The biggest change was immediately obvious. Instead of the familiar blue-and-orange look, guests were surrounded by deep red and orange lighting, creating a much darker and more intense version of the Grid. The Lightcycles themselves also got in on the transformation, with the ride experience featuring the red aesthetic and updated effects. And at night? IT WAS ABSOLUTELY INSANE. 🤯 Watching the Lightcycles race underneath the canopy with those red light trails following behind them made the attraction feel like an entirely different ride. 🎶 THE MUSIC CHANGED TOO But Disney didn’t stop with the visuals. The onboard soundtrack was updated with music from Nine Inch Nails, whose industrial sound helped give the ride a much darker and more aggressive atmosphere. So imagine this… You climb onto your Lightcycle. The lights change. You hear that intense industrial soundtrack. You launch forward… AND YOU’RE FLYING THROUGH A RED GRID. 🔴🏍️💨 That combination of speed, darkness, music and lighting made the overlay feel surprisingly different from the original version. 🏍️ EVEN THE STORY CHANGED The overlay wasn’t simply Disney changing the light bulbs to red. The experience was presented as a new version of the race connected to TRON: Ares, with updated visuals, narration and effects helping create a different story around the attraction. And because TRON Lightcycle / Run is already such a visual attraction, even relatively small changes made a HUGE difference. ⏳ AND THEN IT WAS GONE… The TRON: Ares overlay was always intended to be temporary. It eventually ended on January 19, 2026, bringing back the familiar blue version of the Grid. Which honestly makes those red Grid photos and videos even more special. Because for a few months, guests got to experience something that wasn’t going to be there forever. And that’s one of the coolest things about Disney. Sometimes you can visit the same attraction you’ve ridden dozens of times… And suddenly Disney changes the experience just enough to make it feel brand new. 🔵 TEAM BLUE or 🔴 TEAM RED?
