@civilengineeringhub001: Old building doesn’t always mean demolish. Sometimes… it means retrofit. Retrofitting is strengthening an existing structure instead of starting from scratch. And one powerful method? Column jacketing — giving weak columns a structural upgrade to carry more load safely. More strength. Better performance. Longer lifespan. Smart engineers don’t just build new structures. They know how to improve existing ones. Would you demolish… or strengthen? dro your thoughts in the comment section👇 #civilenegineeringhub001 #civilengineering #civilengineeringstudent #retrofit #constructiontips
so what happens to the foundation that is designed to carry the previous structure. i understand we can do jacketting to columns and beams

perfectly said but they are not added for more loads or floors no they are added for strength failure adding for more floors is not allowed because you will have to start from the foundation except with under pinning

for me I could make a decision of whether to build after a clean analysis of foundation and sail barring capacity and all structural elements, and perform UPV to the existing columns.

this will actually affect the foundation of the building. adding superimposed loads on the structure without considering the integrity of the structural foundation, will have a general effect on the building.

Alaa, there's also retrofitting in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, which basically means modifying an existing system, e.g., changing to the latest refrigerant (which comes with changing a few accessories as well).

I think is better you analyze the problem, compare the cost and time it'll take to complete. Also the expertise of your workforce
