It’s his right not to know or get tested and it’s also your right not to want to go through that and decide to call off the relationship. No one is the AHole here and I think you handled it correctly as a couple.

NTA, there’s no way anyone should have children if there’s a chance of them getting Huntingtons, that would just be cruel.

From what I remember about Huntington's Disease, it is terrible. I am glad that he is negative for it. OP seems like a centered person.

Why do people think it’s ok to not find about their medical history?

Always plan for health issues. My husband married me and six months later I ended up permanently in a wheelchair. If you can’t handle your partner failing at some point don’t get married to anyone.

He has a right to not want to know. But saying that, he needs to remember that when getting married, potentially having kids. You are creating a family unit and it will affect them and change their lives in a huge way.

Huntington’s is awful. Having seen it first hand, I would not want to risk having children that I could pass that down to.

Huntington is a living nightmare. I completely understand both sides. OP being anxious and wanting to anticipate every possible scenarios, him wanting to stay in the dark as long as possible so he wouldn't have to deal with this horrible disease. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

NTA. Diseases and conditions are out of someone’s control, therefore can’t be held against them. But one of the things we CAN take control of is being prepared. If he can’t/won’t do that, I wouldn’t see much of a future.

My husband and I knew we didn’t have any hereditary conditions but we decided to get tested just in case there were any recessive genes we were unaware of that could become an issue. My husband is a Dr and he had seen cases more than u think of people who didn’t know they were both recessive carriers for conditions that affected their children. It’s his right to say no but it’s also hers to bow out.

She’s not in the wrong. It’s hideously expensive to care for someone with Huntingtons it requires a shitload of financial planning to make sure you can afford to. Knowing as soon as possible is the best possible outcome.

nta. I have a genetic condition that condition that can be passed down. I have a mild version, but if it had a child, they could get a more severe version of it, and I wouldn't want to do that to a kid. especially since my condition does lower my lifespan by 15-20 years and can cause other medical complications if I don't keep up on medical screenings

Nope NTA. Hes allowed to decide on how he wants to proceed, and shes allowed to want to plan and make sure they are both taken care of. Im glad he tested negative 😀

Clearly people don’t see the affect of this disease! It’s the worst way to go, and having the gene and intentionally plan a family is giving a life sentence to your kids. I wouldn’t stand by my husband if he ended up with something like that even after 35 years
