"Do you need your receipt?" used to seem pretty innocuous, but it's become strategically deceptive. They got us in the habit of saying, "Oh I don't need a receipt." Customers may even have declined a receipt to signal their awareness of not wasting paper on long receipts. Now it's just one more way businesses can deceive their customers instead of serving them. I always ask for a printed receipt.
