In Michigan we have the funeral rule so after 48 hours post mortem the FH can choose to require it. It isn’t a law tho it’s the rule

the memorial garden called the funeral home the day of the funeral saying if we haven't arrived 2pm an additioanl charge of 500 would be added to an already paid opening and closing

I have personally been to a viewing of a person who chose Not to be embalmed and the very first day of viewing was horrible. I saw the directors face when he saw my face/reaction to the deceased. Just horrible

Funeral Homes absolutely CAN require embalming for public viewing. Under FTC Rule they cannot claim that it is required by law.

You can't fly a body home without embalming per the airline's rules. I had to hire a funeral home in AZ to embalm my son 6 years ago and then I needed a FH in Kentucky to pick him up so I could bury him in our church cemetery here in kentucky.

😁We SHOULD be able to charge a handling fee. We accepted a casket a couple of weeks ago, had to meet the freight driver 2 hours early, he left the casket on a nasty pallet on the carpet, so many packing materials to dispose of, and styrofoam everywhere. I had to revacuum the room and then found styrofoam stuck to myself all throughout the day. BIG pain in the butt!

They can refuse public viewing if not embalmed even tho it’s not required. This can be done thru fb policy.

In louisiana you have 30 hours then the body has to be Embalmed, cremated are buried , it's state law.

In my country by law if you are having an open casket viewing and the person has been dead for over 48 hours embalming is required

So many rules, debates, and now the public thinks they’re Funeral Directors and Embalmers until the industry is dying. The people in the industry are killing it. The value of a FD and EM degrees are becoming a waste and the industry a mockery. Just open a crematory and take a test and be done. Pay a FD basic just for showing their face or just for admin purposes. And that’s your funeral fact.
