As a child raised trilingual, I recommend that your husband pretends he doesn’t speak English when engaging with your son. My mom would literally ignore me if I tried speaking anything but Spanish to her and I’m fluent for life!! However my dad wouldn’t care what language I answered to him, so now I understand his language but don’t speak it fluently :/

my parents were persistent with the 1 parent 1 language rule in a completely different country with another language. I didn’t start properly speaking until i was 3 and i still speak all 3 languages. 🥰

My Mother tongue is also French, also speak 6 languages. My husband is Russian and I learned Russian, taught my three kids Russian. My mom has been teaching my kids French by only speaking to them in French. The other day my son asked me for ice cream in French. I started bawling my eyes out!!! Do not give up!! It’s confusing for them but it’s so worth it in the long run ♥️♥️

I talk to my daughter in Hindi. She has recently started responding in Hindi. Started understanding what I am saying around 4.5 ish years. Don’t give up. He probably understands but difficult to do conversion right now

Grew up in an English city and my mom spoke French & they put us in 100% French school. I will have my children do the same. Highly recommend considering doing it this way because they’ll speak English no matter what bc of where they live. Still speak perfect French now :)

Kids choose to speak the easier language. Which means it will always be english. But it does not mean he will not know french. My nieces have that. The fathers speaks hungarian and the mother romanian. And they choose to speak romanian cause its easier. Also, they know their mom can’t speak hungarian. But it’s really important not to give up. The knowledge is there

2 is too early. He needs to keep going. And definitely add cartoons in french only. both my kids are bilingual now with that method.

you need to add more french things in this life : dad needs to speak ONLY French, and there must be french books for story time, and french cartoons !
