One thing i learned in Life........ if a man puts out his knife and cuts an apple or peels an orange and tells you a story............you should listen carefully cause theres a deeper meaning and a lesson to learn.

Oranges, apples, nuts and a handful of hard candy in an old wool sock was my Dad’s recollection of Christmas. Each child got these on Christmas morning hanging on the roaring fire place. This was a rich blessing! Happiness! I am 81.

I was outside one day in the early spring with my one and a half year-old daughter. We were walking through the yard and she stopped and reached down and picked what she thought was the most beautiful flower she had ever seen and handed it to me. When I saw what type of a flower it was, I stopped and almost told her to put it back because it was a dandelion which to us adults at the time was a sign of more of them to come. I stopped right there booked up at the heavens and thank God for showing me beauty and an innocent child and in his work.

I taught my grandson about a Catalpa tree we have in our yard. I have 3 different types of swings hanging on it. So when we swing we've always thanked the tree for its beauty and shade. I've taught him what happens to the tree through the seasons. So in the winter we tell the tree have a good sleep and we'll see it when it wakes in the spring 😁

I am 77 years old, raised by my grandparents on an old fashioned farm in a rural county in Alabama. In the late 1950’s for Christmas, we were lucky to get an orange, an apple & “a piece” off the huge peppermint stick that my Pop had purchased.

I’ll be 67 years old in about a week or so that being said I started hunting when I was 14 years old on my own. My dad took me hunting when I was nine or 10 years old, but I started on my own when I was 14. And it didn’t matter how cold it was in November I would go out and sit in a tree stand or in a blind on the ground for 10 or 12 hours a day and not even be concerned about bagging a deer. There was so much joy that I found in the solitude of sitting out there with nature. It was my reset.

My Mom always told us kids we should learn to find joy and give thanks for simple things. Her simple favorites was an apple or a popsicle. She tried to make sure she had one or the other every day and gave thanks for it. She lived to be over 97 yrs old. I’d say it was sound advice.

I am proud to say I am easily amused. I got excited to see our first honeybee of the season, I talk to our plants and trees, I am already prepared for the return of the hummingbirds. Cool bugs, finding an earth snake while cleaning up leaves, watching my dogs scratch their backs in the grass, these things make me happy at almost 50 years old.

I like to go out and just find a field and just walk through the weed and you have those red heels that go deep in the ground and then back up just makes you feel alive when you’re out there not looking for anything in particular but finding wonderful things. I love the outdoors.

I grew up 50’s-60’s in natures playground. A beautiful water falls ran into a creek surrounded with woods. I spent many childhood summers knowing the best area to quickly descend the rocky hill. At 70 I can still feel the excitement I felt entering my special place. I knew the exact rocks to jump to head down the creek where 2 creeks joined into a flowing river. There at the join was “my rock”. I’d sit on that flat rock and immerse my bare feet in the water. It felt magical and in later years spiritual. Even after I moved 1 or 2 hours away I didn’t feel complete until I revisited my rock to dangle my feet in the water. If you click on my profile pic you’ll see the falls.

Fresh air. Just returned from a business trip to Vegas (think huge conference center, barely able to get outside) and couldn’t wait to get home to Michigan so I could sleep with my window open!

My Gram used to tell me stories about her childhood. She said her mom and dad always gave them oranges in their stockings for Christmas. This is in PA in the Appalachian Mountains.
