@prettynbling05: I am so tired of seeing other Blk Americans claim that we are not from Africa, our culture didn’t derive from there, or that we actually native to the Americans because it is wrong and pathetic on multiple levels. First of all, no one is denying that Blk Americans have created a unique culture or identity seperate from Africa, but to claim that our ancesots not from there feels pretty disrespectful. They didn’t throw themselves off ships, riot, and fight to preserve every remnant of their homes that they could (while having to create a whole new one) just for one of their descendants to disrespect over some odd shame towards Africans or descending from that continent. I especially psuedoscience that tries to invalidate and even degrade Native Americans—essentially trying to steal their history and culture and claim that we, as Blk people, are the “true” native people of the Americas. There is not a stred of historical or archaeological proof substantiating that claim, but there is plenty of evidence pointing towards natives being in America for at least 18,000 years. I understand viewing this vountry as a homeland because we’ve lived here for 400+ years, but nothing justifies to strip a people (especially natives who have already had so much of their history erased) of their land and identity. Additionally, yes, there is some archaeological evidence that Africans did travel to the Americas at some point, but there is NO proof that those people stayed and mixed with the people ariund there. In fact, it seems more akin to the Vikings potentially traveling to the Americas to trade and returning home. So no, Africans did not live in or “discover” the Americas especially because peopel were already living there lol. Blk Americans can have our own history, culture, and overall identity withiut participating in the hatred of out African ancestors and the erasure of native people.
