one of the ghost lambs says that when they were all dieing and being killed, they found a baby lamb crying. they put that lamb in a basket and down the river before they died. I personally think that the lamb we play as is the baby they spoke of.

Fun fact about cult of the lamb lore!: there is a piece of lore where one of the disciples found a baby, and out of panic (cuz they were being attacked) they put the baby is a basket and let it flow down a river. I’m guessing that’s our lamb but it isn’t 100% confirm, still cool to know!

as far as im aware Koka (i think) found a crying baby and pushed it down a river where it was found by a farmer who raised us but only gave us up for promised gold from the bishops (woolhaven dlc and official comics)
