Its job is to capture fine particulate matter from the exhaust gases and help the car meet strict emission regulations. While effective for emissions, it also creates significant backpressure in the exhaust system. When upgrading the exhaust, the OPF is often the main restriction. As long as it remains in place, it limits exhaust flow and suppresses the true character of the engine. That’s why addressing the OPF is the most important step when optimising the exhaust setup.
