I work in urgent care. Yes, QTips can damage the ear canal and ear drum. However, It’s actually very uncommon.

I used qtips from age 7-17ish by recommendation from a DOCTOR in that time frame I had 19 ear infections just to find out according to him I had malformed ear canals and the qtips were just impacting wax in my ear…my doctor retired before explaining why when I stopped using said qtips, I NEVER had an infection since.

After over 50 years of using Q-Tips in my ears, I finally slipped and tore my eardrum. It hurt a lot for a little while and a little for a long time. Worst part was a ridiculous amount of fluid draining out.

cleaning my ears, got distracted forgot I had a q-tip in my ear. felt something on my ear, went to wipe it and hit the q-tip into my ear. hit my ear drum. pulled the q-tip out and it was bloody. Oops. no permanent damage. Just hurt like a mofo

my ear drum exploded, literally, literal chunks came out for several weeks and the ear drum took forever to grow back an dried chunks kept coming out for a long ahh time. it SUCKED

Ok but use actual QTips if you’re going ear mining, not the cheap knockoff ones that lose the whole ball of cotton if a wind blows on them.

Oh, I've absolutely heard of people hurting themselves, plus like one actual friend, and my Brother got just the cotton part come off and get stuck, it didn't injure him, but he needed it to be removed at urgent care

My mom forgot the Qtip was in her ear and bent over to pick up a hairdryer. It ruptured her eardrum. (But then again, my mom is why we have warning labels on everyday items)

I've ruptured my eardrum 2 times, i Dr told me the 2nd time, "I know you not going to stop, so just find how far is completely comfortable in your ear and then choke up on the q-tip so you can put it in any farther then that"

my dad had a detremental q tip story. sthe military doctors had to pull out black quarter size fuzzy ear wax balls out of his ears. black and orange colored.

You can damage the ear drum if you just push especially if you go too far. My left eardrum is perforated from having tubes and a really bad ear infection, so I have leakage from it. And I have to use a qtip everyday. My advice, rotate don’t push a lot

I had the cotton tip come off in my ear from a 99 cent store Qtip. I pushed it in further trying to get it out. I went to my friends house and she got it out.
