RUL stands for Reasonable Useful Lifetime — and for CPAP machines under Medicare, that’s typically 5 years. That does NOT mean you automatically get a new machine at 5 years. It means you’re eligible for replacement if the machine is no longer functioning properly. Also important: • If your machine is lost, stolen, or damaged beyond repair — documentation is required. • If you enter Medicare mid-rental, your timeline may shift.
