There’s so much more to Maekars grief than people realize. He’s the youngest of 4 boys, but a warrior who fought side by side with his eldest brother so their house could prevail. Part of Maekar died with Baelor that day.

I truely believe Baelor knew Dunk would not kill Aerion, unless he absolutely had to if he did not yield. Hence them holding him back. Maekar did not know this and believed he was going to loose his son and desperately tried to get to him 😭

It’s all bloodraven plotting, of course it’s not Maekar’s fault. The prince that was promised will come from the bloodline of Aegon that’s why everyone else needed to abdicate or die. Come on think about it, how unlikely it was for the fourth son of a fourth son to become the heir and king. Just how many people had to die or give up their claim just so it’s possible.
