When I was in HS I got kicked off the soccer team and was told to switch that period to a different class but I just never did and nobody ever noticed that I just simply didn’t have a class to attend that period

My high school was completely open and outdoor in SoCal with 1 security guard for the whole place 😭 teachers would literally let us leave during class to get coffee and come back.

I always felt super bad for the kids who skipped class cuz to me it just showed me their parents didn’t care for them. My school wouldn’t like lockdown if a kid skipped class, but ever single period had an attendance, and if you missed attendance for any period it would immediately send an email to your parents and call them with an automated message saying you missed the period. Then at the end of the day it would send a final email with the names of the classes missed and another automated call saying the same thing. So if a kid skipped the whole school day their parents would be receiving 8 phone calls and 8 emails (not counting those from the teachers). You could change it so that you would only receive the end of day messages, but that’s still 2 whole reminders that “hey your kid skipped class, maybe check up on them”.

I was in hs a decade ago and as long as you show up for your first period you’re safe usually. The later period teachers would assume you’re just absent for the day. Nowadays that school will immediately contact parents if you’re absent for any period lol

One time I accidentally skipped a class because I did not know where it was. I spent like an hour looking for the classroom and I could not find it. So I just ended up skipping it.
