They didn’t say this in the show, but in the novella, Dunk thinks “he can beat Ser Duncan the Tall, but he can’t beat Dunk of Flea Bottom”. That’s the moment he lunges towards Aerion and starts physical beating him up. Because Dunk (at that point) didn’t have much experince with swords and knight fighting, but he had A LOT of experience with physical fighting from his days having to defend himself in the pits of Flea Bottom.
