Toxic bullying is essentially engrained in South Korean culture (in schools, workplaces, and online spaces). South Korea has a very real and persistent problem with hierarchical abuse, group exclusion, and intense criticism of anything that doesn’t align with their societal notions of attractiveness and academic/professional success. These internal pressures often extend outward in forms of ethnocentric bias, colorism, and discrimination against those perceived as “other” or “beneath” them.

everything starts at home. As parents, we need to teach our children to respect other cultures and not look down on others. Teaching good manners is very important, because the behavior of today’s generation shows that it is the parents who shape them. Everything begins at home.

As a fellow Korean (American) I agree with you completely. I've heard so many people share their experiences with overt racism in Korea and it's horrifying.

It's so hard for people to avoid the trap of flattening other cultures into caricatures. "Positive" and negative caricatures are both dehumanizing. Humans are all glorious and terrible and every other mixture you can imagine.

You do a great job of painting the picture in an objective way, so the long form content is worthwhile! Thank you!

This is why I love your content so much. As a half Korean and half Bangladeshi person, so much of my traumatic experiences growing up as a mixed kid (and still to this day) were never validated or was told "You're making a big deal out of nothing," and I never felt seen or understood. As a result, I just internalized a lot of that pain and I stopped talking about it. You're the only person who addresses these issues. Thanks so much for this. You're amazing ❤
